I strongly believe that half of photographing a wedding is about forming a relationship with the couple. I'm going to be glued to them for what is likely the most important day of their lives so far - so, we should probably enjoy each others' company, right?! Admittedly, I'm drawn to individuals that are funny, open, honest, true to themselves and just a wee bit self deprecating (not in a negative way - more like in a I-Don't-Take-Myself-Too-Seriously kind of way). Emily and Mitch are all that...and more. When I first met them at a coffee shop in Pewaukee, I could tell right away what a sweet relationship they have and their mutual respect for one another. The more they talked about and described their vision for their wedding day, the more I knew we would be a good match! The most important thing to them was spending time with their closest friends and family (some of whom had traveled from as far as California on the actual day!) and creating a relaxed, casual atmosphere. What I didn't quite realize at that time was just how beautiful their vision for a "backyard barbecue" kind of wedding would be. Emily, a graphic designer, branded the wedding and it was perfection. From the color pallet to the smallest detail, I think they fulfilled their vision of the "Best. Day. Ever". To me, the best part about the day was that I didn't feel like a spectator capturing their day from the outside looking in. They made me feel like an insider. Like a friend who was capturing their moments the way they would want to remember them. What a privilege! I had done photo sessions at Retzer Nature Center in the past, but never a wedding. It did not disappoint - such a beautiful, airy setting for a day filled with love, laughter, tears of happiness and everything in between! These photos are just some of the highlights of this beautiful day.
