As mom to a 9 and 7 year old, it’s so bittersweet for me to see how much my own kids have grown and changed over the years. It literally feels like yesterday that I could hold them and squeeze them as much as I wanted. (Unfortunately for me, they are both past that stage!) They have changed so much that all I want to do is grasp onto each little laugh that we share, their sweet look of innocence and enjoy the fact that they still like spending time with my husband and me.
Because of this, one of my goals this year is to shoot more lifestyle sessions – and book a lifestyle session for my own family! If you aren’t familiar with lifestyle photography, it’s a documentary or photojournalistic type session with the goal of artistically capturing subjects interacting in natural, candid and real moments. No posing and no forced smiles for the camera, which can make this a fun and easy session to do with children!
This beautifully styled morning breakfast session just had the sweetest interactions between mom and her wiggly little boy. Making waffles and then sitting down to eat made for such cute and natural moments. Sweet and yummy waffles, syrup and berries definitely kept Nicolas happy and engaged during the session.
5, 10 or even 20 years from now it will be such a gift remember what a typical day looked like for a family through a lifestyle session. It will be even more fun for their children or their children’s children to have these precious memories.
